Southern Maine Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Portland, ME, is seeking to hire an oral surgery assistant. The ideal candidate should be able to multitask, think quickly, remain calm in high-stress situations, and be driven by a desire to work in a healthcare setting. Responsibilities include: Reviewing patient charts in preparation for upcoming exams and surgeries Preparing and stocking patient treatment rooms Preparing documents, materials, and equipment for patient treatment Assisting the doctor during surgery by managing the patient airway, taking and recording patient vitals, and passing instruments Setting up, breaking down, and cleaning surgical rooms, and removing trays for sterilization When licensed, taking panoramic and CBCT radiographs Providing thorough pre- and post-operative instructions to patients and escorts Communicating with outside medical providers for medical clearances All assistants must obtain and maintain the State of Maine radiology license and basic lifesaving certification. SMOMS supports this by providing access to educational resources and covering licensing costs. Our practice invests in the latest technology, including four X Guide machines, a SprintRay 3D printer, and three CS 9600 CBCT scanners. We encourage staff to become fully trained on this equipment through workshops and in-service meetings. Occasional travel between our Portland, Biddeford, and Windham locations may be necessary. Work hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:15 am – 5:00 pm, and Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm. Benefits include PTO, health and dental insurance, STD, LTD, profit sharing, 401K, and voluntary insurance plans.
